Just Be "Local"..

As we couldn't surrender December without getting melt with Tunis downtown winter spirit, we decided to sacrify Saturday morning for this lovely ritual of ours. Allowing ourselves to be oblivious about the daily stress of our working hours and traffic ones and enjoy our little simple local trip. A trip that remains sacred for at least one person in each Tunisian house. From Beb El Falla's(*) crowd to Sidi boumendil's (*) "Made in China" army, passing by Rue de la Commission(*)when you feel that celebrations never end around with all the bridal sugared almond packaging and those for babies shower parties too.

And certainly, no one is able to resist Le Marché Central(*), neither resisting the wish to explore and shop from its magical sensational halls: the garden center, the sea fresh yummy treasures, the hand-made pastry, dough, bases and batters, spices, olives and their surroundings...and God, how much we love the amazing lovely salesman in the corner of the cheese monger hall (Chapeau for his team too ^^). And as we loved pampering our tongues and noses, we left le Central holding bags not full of products, but of their workers' hours, memories, discussions, little secrets and big hopes and dreams...

  • Beb El Falla (*) : a popular Souk of both second hand clothes and the daily needs of vegetables, fruits, meat etc
  • Sidi boumendil (*) : another popular souk of counterfeit products in which many find Bon marché deals !
  • Rue de la Commission(*): is located in the entry of La Medina, facing Beb el bhar (the arc in the above photo)
  • Le Marché Central(*) it was built in 1891 and considered as one of the historical monuments of La Medina.
